埃克森美孚加入苏格兰碳捕获项目

           7月18日消息称,埃克森美孚周五表示,该公司已经签署了一份谅解备忘录(MoU),加入苏格兰Acorn碳捕获和存储(CCS)项目。


     该项目计划到2030年从苏格兰Peterhead的St Fergus综合天然气终端捕获和存储大约500 - 600万吨二氧化碳(CO2),其中包括能源巨头的合资天然气终端。


      据估计,Acorn项目可以提供英国政府每年1000万吨二氧化碳减排目标的一半以上。如果进一步扩建,到本世纪30年代中期,该项目的碳减排将超过2000万吨/年。

    ExxonMobil signs MoU to join carbon capture project in Scotland

ExxonMobil has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join the Acorn carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Scotland, the company said on Friday.


     The project plans to capture and store approximately 5-6m tons/year of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 2030 from gas terminals at the St Fergus complex at Peterhead, Scotland, which includes the energy major’s joint-venture gas terminal.


      It is estimated that the Acorn project could provide more than half of the 10m tons/year of CO2 storage the UK government has targeted to reduce emissions. With further expansion the project could have capacity for more than 20m tons/year by the mid-2030s.


     “ExxonMobil has more than 30 years’ experience in CCS technology and is advancing plans for multiple new CCS opportunities around the world,” said Joe Blommaert, president of Low Carbon Solutions at ExxonMobil. “We are pleased to support the Acorn Project in the deployment of CCS, one of the most important technologies required to achieve society’s climate goals.”


      The new project is part of ExxonMobil’s scheme to move into the low-carbon space by focusing on CCS projects to offset emissions from its operations.


      Earlier this year, the company proposed a similar project in the form of a $100bn CCS hub in the Houston Ship Channel with plans to capture and bury CO2 under the US Gulf of Mexico.


       The US Gulf has been seen by other CCS companies as an ideal site because its geological characteristics could allow large quantities of CO2 to be safely stored in the region.


       An early projection shows that such a facility could capture and permanently store about 50m tonnes/year of CO2 by 2030, and by 2040 that could reach 100m tonnes/year.


       Storage capacity figures for the US Gulf indicate it could hold about 500bn tonnes of CO2, based on 2018 data, according to the US Department of Energy.


       The company has also joined NECCUS, which is an organisation made up of industry and government experts committed to reducing carbon emissions from industrial facilities in Scotland.
